Frog Habitat

By Alfred at 2009-12-08 01:02:08
Frog habitats can be tricky. Some frogs require an aquatic tank (filled with water), some a terrestrial (no water) and some require both types of habitat. Be sure which your frog needs or it will suffer unneeded stress, disease and possibly death. In addition to the type, the habitat will need to be cleaned often. Frogs are susceptible to disease and contaminants within their living quarters.

The first thing you need to know about pet tree frog care is their habitat. Tree frogs naturally exist in the forest, and are thus subject to great amounts of moisture trapped by the leafy canopies of these tropical jungles. As such, when constructing a habitat for your pet, you must mimic these conditions and supply the tree frogs in your care with substitutes that would provide them with the things they need from such an environment as they are used to.

Unlike many frogs, the Pacman frog is not exactly the best swimmer and may enjoy just hanging around in shallow water, rather than swimming in deep water. The Pacman Frog has an incredible growth rate; From the time that it is born to the time that it is a fully formed adult is just 2 or 3 weeks and it will grow to 6 or 7 inches long within a few months!

Food is the most important part of creating a backyard wildlife habitat. You can incorporate two sources of food in your backyard habitat. Plants native to your area provide food for native birds, insects and other wildlife. Animals consume fruit, nectar, leaves and other parts of the plant.

Since frogs are aquatic animals, you will also need to put plenty of water in its habitat. The water should be about 12 inches deep, with 6 inches being the absolute minimum. This way, your pet will be able to get an enjoyable swim while also being able to easily get to the surface when necessary.

If you are a fan of the animal world, you may want to see the tree frogs at a close range. They can be found in the Northern hemisphere of America and Asia and specifically in central Texas and Northern Canada. One interesting thing about them is that they can help you predict when its going to rain because they make some noisy sounds when there are tell signs of rain in the air.

You can purchase a frog from Grow-A-Frog online, or from the fish section of your local department store. These frogs are used extensively in laboratories for research because of the properties of their skin. They used to be used for pregnancy detection before more sophisticated tests were available and were released into the wild in the USA when they were no longer needed.

Provide food for birds and insects by planting native species that produce the flowers, nuts, and berries that local fauna desire. Such plants will serve as the foundation of the food chain that you are creating for the habitat.

Tree frogs can actually change its colour to a remarkable extent. So much so that if on a leaf it will be green but when on bark can change its colour to brownish grey. This is the importance the tree frog places on not being seen during the day.
