What are emotional affair signs? You might have heard the term being used more and more recently. What makes it different from an affair in general? An emotional affair is an affair that excludes sexual intimacy. That means that there is usually no sexual contact in an emotional affair. Hugs and kisses might occur.

You go out of your way to repeatedly "run into" this person. We all look forward to seeing people we enjoy-a particular friend or interesting colleague, for instance. If you're honest with yourself, however, you'll know the difference between a truly coincidental meeting and a "coincidence" that occurs because you stood around the office coffee machine for two hours (and you don't even drink coffee).

Extramarital infidelity is, for many people, a type of an affair. While an emotional affair may lack physical intimacy, or even physical contact for that matter -- within the confines of marriage, generally the longing for another individual, or their attention, is usually viewed as a breach of the unwritten rules of a marital relationship.

Emotional affairs may be on the rise. In the CNN article, psychiatrist Gail Saltz says, "Though emotional affairs have always been around, I'm seeing more of them among my clients than ever before. We've all grown so used to watching, reading, and hearing sexually suggestive material that there's no longer an obvious verbal or physical line we think we're crossing."

It makes it sound like it is this wonderful experience with no consequences ... as in "It was a grand affair." In my marital counseling and relationship coaching experience, adultery breaks up marriages, wrecks families and crushes kids.

The most common form of communication these days is the cell phone. If you suspect that your spouse isn't being faithful pay special attention to their cell phone behavior. It's much safer, in the eyes of the adulterer, to have their lover call their cell. Therefore one of the signs of an affair in your marriage is how your spouse handles those calls.

If any of these statements are true for you, it is time to rethink the direction you are moving in. Turn your attention back to your spouse. Take him/her out on a date. Make time for a long, intimate conversation. Touch your spouse. You may or may not have noticed, but you have probably withdrawn physically from your spouse as well as emotionally.

Another sign that there might be something going on is that you are no longer the person that they go to when something happens. If they are having a problem, who do they call, and what do they do? If you notice that they are constantly going to someone who is not you for comfort, you will find that there is a problem there.

If you're fortunate, you may be able to catch things before the affair even takes place. Like any relationship, it takes time to be intimate. There is usually a period called the, "emotional affair" which takes place first.
